Meet the Heart

Behind Pearls of Wisdom

Pearls of Wisdom evolved from many lessons gleaned from the life of Rosa P. Hughes. Rosa was a gracious mother full of great faith and love. She often shared memories of picking cotton, learning in a one room school house, and the challenges of losing her mother at a young age. She was blessed that her grandmother Mattie Washington lovingly taught her and many of the children throughout the community. Due to skipping grade levels Rosa graduated from high school at the age of 16.

After migrating north, Rosa experienced many challenges that attempted to break her spirit. Yet a strong foundation and faith in the Word of God guided her to pursue higher education.

As a single mother she enrolled in night classes, earning an Associate’s Degree from the College of Lake County. Then, a Bachelor’s Degree from Barat College. Next, a Master’s Degree in Business Management from Lake Forest College, and yet another Bachelor’s Degree from The Sanctuary.

Education became her refuge and her mission, one that she passed down to her children, especially me—I’m her oldest daughter. It’s my privilege and honor to help others experience power and liberation through education.

Rosa never liked the middle name “Pearl,” a name that seemed too delicate for her journey. She instead embraced the initial “P”, a quiet but powerful symbol of the woman she would become—a true “Mother Pearl.”

Working with Mrs Smith brought back my daughter's confidence.

Parent

Pearls of Wisdom tutoring services had a huge impact on his Math identity. Mrs. Smith has a gift of meeting students at their level to build their math skills and it didn’t feel like tutoring.

Student

My daughter still thinks math is harder for her but now she isn’t as afraid of it.

Parent

I think your approach to tutoring has helped her break down the tools that are provided in school and know how to apply them in a variety of situations.

Student

My student learned to do math a lot better than before tutoring

Student's teacher

I highly recommend Mrs. Smith as a math tutor for your child. She has a remarkable ability to meet students exactly where they are, tailoring her approach to match their needs and learning style. Her creative methods make new math skills both fun and engaging, which keeps students motivated and confident. Since working with Mrs. Smith, my son’s test scores have improved significantly, and his understanding of core math concepts has deepened. Most importantly, he now approaches math with a positive attitude and a willingness to tackle challenges.

Teacher

Ms. Smith is an amazing math tutor who combines deep subject knowledge with a patient and encouraging teaching style. Ms. Smith makes even the most challenging concepts easy to understand by breaking them down into simple, understanding steps. Ms. Smith's lessons are well structured and made to fit individual learning styles, helping build both skills and confidence. Students who were once struggling now look forward to math, and the improvement in grades and attitude speaks for itself. She helped me increase 15% on my math EOG this year compared to my score last year. I highly recommended Ms. Smith for any middle schooler needing extra support in math!
